King’s Capital Academy: Recap
We are proud to look back on a successful first semester for the King’s Capital Academy. This semester has been a clear reflection of the dedication, growth, and potential of our cohort, and we’re excited to share the progress they’ve made.
We selected 23 individuals from a pool of over 100 applicants for our competitive 5-week Academy programme. Designed for students with a strong passion for finance but limited professional experience, the programme provided an intensive introduction to the core technical skills required for a career in finance and trading.
Throughout the semester, our cohort gained exposure to a diverse range of topics, including:
Accounting Fundamentals & DCF – Participants learned the fundamentals of financial statements and were trained in constructing discounted cash flow (DCF) models to assess the intrinsic value of companies.
Options & Derivatives – The cohort gained in-depth knowledge of options, including the Greeks, volatility, and probability. They developed a solid understanding of option pricing models and strategies for managing risk in derivative markets.
Quantitative Finance – Participants were introduced to programming in Python, along with key libraries such as NumPy and Pandas. They applied these tools to analyse financial data, perform quantitative analyses, and build predictive models.
Stock Screening & Financial Ratios – In addition to technical analysis, the programme emphasised fundamental analysis. Academy members learned how to screen stocks using financial ratios and understand the key indicators that identify high-quality investment opportunities.
In addition to this technical skill-building, the Academy also focused on real-world application. Participants were encouraged to collaborate, pitch investment strategies to more senior members, and present their analyses with confidence. This hands-on approach ensured they could translate theory into practice, a crucial skill in the fast-paced world of finance. A key highlight of the semester was the Fireside Chat with Stephanie d’Eau, where participants gained valuable insights into the finance industry, including practical advice on excelling in interviews and navigating job applications in competitive fields like trading and investment banking. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to network with top-tier firms such as StoneX, Jefferies, and J.P. Morgan, helping to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world career opportunities and advancing participants’ career ambitions through our talent pipeline. We are also proud to announce that 13 Academy graduates have secured roles as analysts across three of King’s Capital’s trading teams.
During Semester 2, we are excited to continue providing our participants with opportunities for growth and advancement. With more in-depth training, industry exposure, and career development opportunities on the horizon, we are confident that the Academy cohort is well-equipped to thrive in the competitive world of finance.
